Three Day Project: Exposing A Brick Wall

Upon our initial inspection of the house, we were convinced we would not be able to expose the brick party wall, which spans the entire depth of the house, because of the newness of the plaster. However, after we purchased the place, we thought we'd just test it out, and the plaster quickly gave way to beautiful brick! So we tested the wall again at the bottom of the stairs (where little miss M is helping out) and yet again the plaster came off easily.

So we took the plunge, grabbed our hammers, chisels, and crowbars, and got to work- loud, dusty, and sweaty work. There were various laborers on the project at different times, and we are deeply thankful to my parents, MJ, D&LS, and J&RS for all the hours and energy spent chipping away at the wall. It is beautiful, and we are finishing it this weekend by wire brushing the last bits of it which I could not reach on my own this week.

In the meantime, the to-do list has ebbed and flowed, at times feeling incredibly overwhelming, and other times it has seemed like a playground of projects. An unexpectedly fun find was the original penny tile flooring in the bathroom! We had no idea they were under the (three!) layers of linoleum and other tile work. Once we get them cleaned up, you can be sure I'll post pictures, they just may be one of my favorite features in the house!

Various contractors have come in this week to give estimates on cleaning up the damage we've done (drywall, roofer, electrician, and plumber to name a few.)

Looking forward to getting the wall finished and the dust cleared from the house so we can start prepping the walls for priming and painting!

Come join us this weekend!
