A Thrifty Fifty

Last weekend was a "Morgan Girls" weekend in celebration of my beloved Mom's 50th birthday! My grandmother, aunt, mom, and sister kicked off the long weekend with a quick brunch at my house on Friday morning, where we dined on quiche and poached pears, cheeses, and fruit. We departed the District and made our way to Leesburg to shop our hearts out at Lucketts and enjoy Leesburg's First Friday Gallery Walk event. We enjoyed our Italian pasta dinner on a restaurant porch while a local band played their rock-esque music. Arriving home after 10pm, we headed to bed to prepare for our early morning wake-up call for the much anticipated "Colorfest" in Thurmont. We strolled, shopped, and ate our way through booth after booth of handcrafted wares, goods, and food for six hours. Dog tired and slightly dehydrated, we headed to my mom's house, ordered perfect fried chicken from Red Rooster, and played Bananagrams at the kitchen table until midnight. The next morning, we went to church with my parents, ate a breakfast of eggs, grits, bacon, and Great Grandma Alta's biscuits with honeybutter. After saying a sad goodbye to my aunt at the airport, Mom, Dad, and Mimi and I headed back to the District (with my various craft show goods in tow) to attend my church's Mountain Band concert (to which we didn't quite make it) and hear Ken give a talk at church that night.

Thankfully, Mimi is here for the week, and we are already making plans for next year's Morgan Girls weekend. Our only question is why we didn't come up with this a few years ago.

And of course- happy birthday to my dearly loved mother. I know I said it last year, but its all the more true as another year as passed- I am overwhelmed with thankfulness when I consider the blessing you and your friendship are in my life. You mean more to me than I can say, and I can only hope to be as graceful, funny, thoughtful, and beautiful as you are when I am 50.

Eager to put up my new Christmas decoration from the Colorfest!

P.S. The pic of me and Mimi at the end is one of my new favorites of she and I. Look at her smirk- how can you not just love her?!
